Accounting Manager

The Associated Recreation Council is recruiting for an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager is responsible for supervising, tracking and evaluating day-to-day accounting activities. The Accounting Manager will also be responsible for establishing financial status by developing and implementing systems, collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting information.

Starting Salary: $69,000 yearly

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervision/Leadership

  • Supervise direct reports to ensure financial reporting deadlines are met, ensuring overseeing work to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance-related issues.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance professional development to staff.
  • Participate in workforce planning to determine present and future staff needs.
  • Supervise, coach and evaluate direct reports’ work demonstrating desirable leadership qualities to reporting staff.
  • Facilitate individualized professional development plans for direct reports with regular coaching, training and guidance.

Operations

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including:
    • Accounts payable/requisitions system/accounts receivable
    • cash receipts
    • general ledger
    • payroll
    • budgeting
    • cash forecasting
    • revenue & expenditure variance analysis
    • check runs
    • monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
    • establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principals
    • improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
    • assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy
    • establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
  • Participate in organizational trainings that cover the basics in:
    • Budgeting
    • Cash handling
    • Budget Tool
    • Reading financials

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES

  • Proficiency with Windows operating system including HRIS
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principals, practices, standards, laws and regulations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to direct and supervise
  • Advanced experience with MS Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Organized, solution-oriented and detail-oriented

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE

BS degree in Accounting or Finance or related field. Five years in an accounting management role or a combination of experience and education.
