School-Age Child Care Counselor (Wedgwood)

Associated Recreation Council, the non-profit partner with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is currently looking for individuals who wish to actively support their communities while having fun and help provide a great experience for children ages 5-12. Our school-age care programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

We are hiring for School-Age Child Care Counselor positions at Wedgwood Elementary School for our After School programs within the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center in Seattle.

Pay Rate: $15.50 Hourly

School Year Schedule:

  • September 6, 2017 through mid-June 2018
  • Monday – Friday; 1:00pm - 6:00pm; up to 25 hours per week; schedule may vary based on site needs
  • School Break Camp weeks and school early release days may be up to 8 hours per day/40 hours per week
  • Summer Camp schedule (mid-June 2018 through early September 2018 ) is Monday – Friday 30-40 hours per week
  • Schedule is subject to change based upon programming needs and requirements. You may be asked to work at other sites as needed to cover shifts.

Our Counselors:

  • Organize and lead programs and activities such as: arts and crafts, organized games, cultural activities, drama, music, story hour, sports, field trips, and other special projects and events
  • Work with other staff to ensure the care and safety of participants at all times
  • Must be willing to complete training for certification in First Aid/CPR, Food Handlers Permit, HIV/AIDS blood-borne pathogens education, and STARS training

Requirements:

  • Eighteen years of age or older
  • High School diploma/GED or transcripts of secondary education
  • At least one year experience working with 5-12 year olds
  • Experience with large groups of children is preferred
  • Ability to commit to school year and summer is strongly preferred
  • Negative Tuberculosis results within the past year
  • Valid WA state driver’s license or WA state ID
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Food Handlers permit a plus
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the US and valid government issued ID
  • Must sign up for direct deposit with either checking or savings account

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Counselors must also be willing to help out at other program sites as needed.
