Summer Camp Counselor (All Community Centers)

Associated Recreation Council, the non-profit partner with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is currently looking for individuals as Summer Day Camp Counselors who wish to actively support their communities while having fun and help provide a great experience for children ages 5-12. Our Summer Day Camp programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

We are hiring soon for Summer Day Camp Counselor positions at our Community Centers throughout Seattle.

Pay Rate: $15.50 Hourly; up to 40 hours/week for 10 weeks


  • Northeast (Thornton Creek, Wedgwood Elementary Schools, Meadowbrook Community Center)
  • Northwest (Northgate, Ballard, Bitterlake Community Centers)
  • Central (Queen Anne, Magnolia, Montlake Community Centers)
  • Southeast (Rainier Beach, Rainier, Delridge, Van Asselt, Jefferson Community Centers and John Muir Elementary School)
  • Southwest (Genesee Hill, Schmitz Park and Lafayette Elementary Schools, High Point, Hiawatha, South Park, Alki Community Centers)

Summer Schedule:

  • Mid-June 2018 through early September 2018; Summer training sessions are required
  • Summer Break Camp: Monday – Friday; up to 40 hours per week
  • Schedule is subject to change based upon programming needs and requirements. You may be asked to work at other sites as needed to cover shifts.
  • If your schedule permits, you may continue working in Fall 2018 as a School-Age Childcare Counselor as well

Our Counselors:

  • Organize and lead programs and activities such as: arts and crafts, organized games, cultural activities, drama, music, story hour, sports, field trips, and other special projects and events
  • Work with other staff to ensure the care and safety of participants at all times
  • Must be willing to complete training for certification in First Aid/CPR, Food Handlers Permit, HIV/AIDS blood-borne pathogens education, and STARS training


  • Eighteen years of age or older
  • High School diploma/GED or transcripts of secondary education
  • At least one year experience working with 5-12 year olds
  • Experience with large groups of children is preferred
  • Ability to commit to the summer schedule, required training and school year counseling is strongly preferred
  • Negative Tuberculosis results within the past year
  • Valid WA state driver’s license or WA state ID
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Food Handlers permit a plus
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the US and valid government issued ID
  • Must sign up for direct deposit with either checking or savings account

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Counselors must also be willing to help out at other program sites as needed.
