Assistant Child Care Director (Alki)

Full Time | Alki Community Center

The Associated Recreation Council is recruiting for an Assistant Director for School Age Care. The Assistant Director will be responsible for developing program offerings in partnership with the SAC Director. The Assistant Director creates and supports a fun, safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and participants. The Assistant Director establishes and maintains positive relationships with Seattle Parks and Recreation staff, Seattle Public Schools staff, parents, and participants. As an ARC employee, the SAC Assistant Director takes pride in what they do for our neighborhoods and communities and are committed to staying true to ARC Mission, Vision, and Values.

Salary: $18.50 hourly/non-exempt

Schedule: Monday - Friday; up to 35 hours per week; may work as late as 6:00pm

Locations: Alki Community Center

Key Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP

  • Assist director to mentor, train, and coach staff in development and implementation of program
  • Demonstrate and model desirable leadership qualities to reporting staff
  • Support director in creating high quality program offerings
  • Engage staff and youth in utilizing their voice to affect program offerings
  • Lead opening and closing procedures daily
  • Address behavior via positive reinforcement
  • Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunity for social and emotional growth
  • Collaborate with SAC team members to ensure the success of participants
  • Communicate with SAC team members, families, Seattle Parks and Recreation, school staff
  • Assess situations, come up with effective solutions, recognize what needs to be done and take action.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Create program and snack plans
  • Regular assessments, observations, and audits of programs, children, and staff paperwork to be in accordance with DEL licensing and PQI requirements (and others as needed or required)
  • Support director creating staff schedules and budget training
  • Complete attendance tracking and maintain related records
  • Attend staff training and related meetings
  • Provide input to staff performance review

SAFETY

  • Support director in drafting safety procedures
  • Schedules regular safety drills and disseminates corresponding responsibilities to reporting staff
  • Lead day-to-day program implementation including DEL (Department of Early Learning) requirements and PQI (program quality initiative)
  • Utilize proper and timely reporting procedures, including CPS reporting, licensor notification, field supervisor notification, and completion of prerequisite documentation

CARE & CUSTODY

  • Enforce regular head counts
  • Maintain audio/visual support at all times
  • Maintain appropriate child to staff ratios
  • Ensure environments are well-maintained, appropriate and support the needs of the program and its participants
  • Provide positive transitions that maintain ratios/head counts to minimize the behavior issues
  • Supports other organization sites and programs as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • At least two years experience working with school age children.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 30 or more college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education
  • Experience planning and coordinating a developmentally appropriate program.
  • Documentation of current Red Cross First-Aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid King County food handlers permit, Washington State driver’s license, have cleared a TB test; willing to complete STARS training.
  • Successful completion of background checks

This is a full-time, year-round, benefited position. Hours will vary and may be scheduled between 6:00am to 6:00pm. Working split shifts may be required based on business/program need.
