Lead School-Age Child Care Counselor (South Park)

Part Time | South Park Community Center

Associated Recreation Council, the non-profit partner with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is recruiting for enthusiastic people who will help us deliver fun and creative programs for children ages 5-12.

Our Lead School-Age Child Care Counselors work in the school-age child care programs, which provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow. This position is for the After School program and Summer Day Camp at South Park Community Center.

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday; up to 25 hours per week; the approximate schedule is between 1:45pm -6:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 12:45pm - 6:00pm on Wednesdays; schedule may vary based on site needs
  • School break camp weeks and school early release days may be up to 8 hours per day; up to 40 hours per week
  • Summer Camp schedule (June - August; Monday – Friday up to 40 hours per week)

Pay Rate: $17.00 hourly paid biweekly

Our Lead Counselors:

  • Develop and lead programs and activities such as arts and crafts, organized games, cultural activities, drama, music, story hour, sports, field trips, and other special projects and events
  • Work with other staff to ensure the care and safety of participants at all times
  • Must be willing to complete training for certification in First Aid/CPR, Food Handlers Permit, HIV/AIDS blood-borne pathogens education, and STARS training

Requirements:

  • Eighteen years of age or older
  • High School diploma/GED or transcripts of secondary education
  • At least one year experience working with youth in a recreation setting or childcare setting
  • Experience with working with 5-12 year olds and with large groups on field trips
  • Experience with leading activities to children and supervisorial experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to commit to the entire year (school year and summer camp)
  • Clear Tuberculosis results within the past year
  • Valid WA state driver’s license or WA state ID
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Food Handlers permit a plus
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the US and valid government issued ID
  • Must sign up for direct deposit with either checking or savings account or Payroll Paycard

This is a part-time, year-round, and non-benefited position. Lead Counselors must also be willing to help out at other program sites as needed.
