YOUth Can Make an Impact
The Associated Recreation Council (ARC), non-profit partner to Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), has established a youth-led Citywide Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council joins the existing advisory council system comprised of 36 adult-led advisory councils across Seattle.
The council is made up of 15 Seattle teens from all over the city who are chosen to represent the voice of their community, advise on ARC, SPR, and City initiatives, and enhance programming opportunities for youth. Youth council members represent Seattle City Council districts and their neighborhoods-at-large.
Youth Advisory Council members also have opportunities to work with key stakeholders such as the ARC Advisory Councils, ARC Board of Directors, SPR leadership, Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners, Seattle Park District Board, and the Deputy Mayorās Office.
Benefits
Benefits to participants on the Youth Advisory Council include:
- $300 stipend paid every six months ($600/year)
- Food will be provided at each meeting along with a $25 gift card
- Volunteer Service Hours toward H.S. graduation
- Influence SPR youth activities across the city
- Career development and mentorship
- Opportunity to advise key decision-makers and stakeholders
- Active membership in the SPARC Advisory Council system
Responsibilities
- Meet every other month (in-person and virtually)
- Advise key decision makers through surveys and focus groups
- Promote and participate in recreational activities
- Attend our three annual signature events (Big Day of Play, Presidentās Meeting, Annual General Meeting)
- Commit to personal and professional growth and development
